While studying one of your gen-eds, Early Yivlican Studies, you come across a lone word at the bottom of a Yivlican scroll. It is marked with the following characters... you look back at the Rosetta Stone to attempt a transliteration...

The Yiv script was used by a small group of English immigrants, Yivlicans, before their decedents fully assimilated into the culture and language of the Ithkiyaani people. The name Yiv came from the earliest known Yiv inscription, shown above. Scholars believe Yiv was likely the name of someone's spouse or significant other who was Ithkiyaani, as the word Yiv does not have a translation in the English language. Yiv is an English-conforming-adaptation of the classical script for the Ithkiyaani's language, Ithkiyaaqui.

I always found that the (quite) old professor who tought the course seemed very somber, even sad, when teaching the classical scripts. There would be instances in which he would stare of into space... once I even heard him mutter, "A language lost, just as we are, aren't we?"
